Dubai Launches ‘Sitr’ Initiative to Support Families Facing Rental Hardship
Dubai has launched a major humanitarian programme called “Sitr” to assist families struggling with rental payments and related legal challenges. Backed by an AED 10 million fund, the initiative is a joint effort by the Dubai Rental Disputes Center (RDC) and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable Establishment, aligning with the UAE’s Year of the Family 2026.
Purpose and Scope of Sitr
Sitr is designed to provide targeted financial and judicial support to vulnerable families facing rental arrears and enforcement actions like eviction. Throughout 2026, the programme aims to:
- Assist 232 eligible families in settling outstanding rent
- Secure the release of 111 individuals from detention related to rental disputes
- Resolve and close 187 enforcement cases
This approach helps families regain financial stability and reduces the backlog of cases at the RDC.
Humanitarian and Judicial Collaboration
Judge Abdulqader Mousa Mohammed, Chairman of the RDC, emphasized that Sitr reflects Dubai’s commitment to compassion and social solidarity. By integrating financial aid with legal processes, the initiative ensures families are treated fairly and humanely while upholding contractual obligations. This collaboration bridges the gap between judicial enforcement and humanitarian support, reinforcing the RDC’s role as a partner for families in distress.
Beneficiary Selection Criteria
To ensure transparency and fairness, beneficiaries will be selected based on:
- Social circumstances and income sources
- Outstanding rent liabilities and payment history
- Verified documentation
This structured assessment ensures assistance reaches those facing genuine financial hardship.
Broader Social Impact
Sitr supports the UAE’s National Agenda for Family Growth, which focuses on strengthening family stability and social welfare. By alleviating rental distress, the programme aims to:
- Reduce stress and improve family well-being
- Preserve family unity and stable living conditions
- Enhance community cohesion in Dubai
A Landmark Charitable Initiative
This marks the first domestic charitable initiative for 2026 by the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charitable Establishment. Saif Omar Aldelail, a Board of Trustees member, noted that Sitr embodies the UAE’s humanitarian values and commitment to social welfare.

Looking Ahead
As Dubai continues to grow, initiatives like Sitr play a crucial role in mitigating the human cost of economic pressures, particularly in a city where rental costs are a significant household expense. By providing timely support, Sitr reinforces Dubai’s reputation as a compassionate and socially responsible city, ensuring residents can thrive and contribute positively to the community.
